Yves Saint Laurent passed away June 1st 2008 and since then his legendary fashion house has been revamped, redesigned, renamed and rehoused.
This week the Parisian couture house was yet again shaken up with the news that Heidi Slimane will step down from its helm to be replaced by Anthony Vaccarello. Slimane was previously the much lauded designer of Dior Homme and has been at house for only a 4 year tenure, during which he renamed it to 'Saint Laurent' and semi-relaunched its couture collections, this brings much speculation as to the reason(s) of his departure.
Vaccarello has designed his own namesake label since its debut at Paris Fashion Week in 2011, as well as heading the design team at Versus Versace under the careful watch of Donatella Versace. Many are wondering if he has the experience which is needed for Laurent and their fears are not baseless. He is young and does not have a multitude of experience, but neither does Olivier Rousteing of Balmain and look where he has taken it and what he has accomplished.
It would be a no-brainer to think Alber Elbaz would be a perfect fit for the job, but fashion has no rules and follows to the beat of its own drum.
Lets see where this new era at YSL takes us.
